Legend has it…
Wheat germ refers to the embryo or sprouting portion of a wheat seed, and it is rich in nutrients. While wheat germ is not explicitly discussed in classical Ayurvedic texts, it can be analyzed based on its taste (rasa), energy (virya), post-digestive effect (vipaka), qualities (guna), and potential effects on doshas.
Ayurvedic Properties
- Rasa (Taste)-Slightly sweet (madhura)
- Virya (Potency)-Heating energy (ushna virya).
- Vipaka (Post-digestive effect)- Sweet (madhura vipaka).
- Guna (Quality)-Light(laghu),unctuousness (snigdha).
- Karma(action)-Wheat germ, being heating and slightly sweet, may have the potential to increase Pitta dosha when consumed in excess. It is generally considered more balancing for Vata and Kapha doshas.
