Flaxseeds (Linum usitatissimum) are not traditionally mentioned in classical Ayurvedic texts, as they are native to regions outside of India. However, due to their nutritional profile and health benefits, flaxseeds have gained popularity in modern Ayurveda and are often incorporated into contemporary Ayurvedic practices.
Ayurvedic Properties
- Rasa (Taste): Slightly sweet and slightly bitter taste.
- Virya (Potency): Heating energy
- Guna (Quality): light and dry .
- Action: Balances excess Vata dosha due to their oily and warming nature. However,it's heating quality may aggravate Pitta dosha if consumed in excess.
- Vipaka (Post-Digestive Effect): After digestion, the flaxseeds exhibits a sweet post-digestive effect, further facilitating a nourishing action within the constitution.
