California Proposition 65
Sri Sri Tattva understands your concerns about the California Proposition 65 warnings seen on our website and product labels. We have provided this information so that as a customer you can learn more about the warnings and make an informed decision. We assure you that our products are safe and continue to be safe.
So what is California Proposition 65?
Proposition 65, officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted as a ballot initiative in November 1986. The proposition protects the state’s drinking water sources from being contaminated with chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and requires businesses to inform Californians about exposures to such chemicals.
The purpose is to give Californian residents the information they need to investigate and make informed decisions to protect themselves from exposure to toxins. The list contains a wide range of naturally occurring and synthetic chemicals (more than 800). For more information and the list of chemicals published by the state of California, visit: https://oehha.ca.gov/proposition-65
Are Sri Sri Tattva products labeled to comply with Prop 65?
Yes. We apply stickers to our products sold in California with a Prop 65 warning, reading: “Warning: This product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm.” This is the required warning for lead and other chemicals listed under Proposition 65 as reproductive toxicants.
Where does the lead come from?
Lead is present in nature – in the air we breathe, the water we drink and in the soil where we grow plants, and is present at various levels around the world. Whilst Sri Sri Tattva doesn’t add lead to our products trace amounts are present as the whole herbs we use are exposed to natural elements.
Are Sri Sri Tattva products safe to use?
Yes! Our products are safe when used as directed. As a pioneer in the Science of Ayurveda, Sri Sri Tattva follows several guiding principles, including rigorous testing. Every batch of finished product undergoes a battery of tests at our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in India as well as by independent 3rd party laboratories for overall purity, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury), residual pesticides and biological contamination to ensure that our products are safe and do not contain harmful levels of these materials.
We follow the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) limits, which sets guidelines for dietary supplements sold in the United States.
Our products are also certified by AYUSH Premium, which follows stringent WHO guidelines and GMP practice.
Our manufacturing facilities are certified GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000:2005
If it is safe, then why do you add a warning?
We do not want to deprive California residents from getting the amazing benefits that 5000 year science of Ayurveda has to offer.
In the case of lead, the Proposition 65 warning standard is 1000 times lower than the level found to cause no reproductive harm based on animal studies. The natural lead content in the environment can easily exceed the Prop 65 requirements of 0.5 micrograms/day. So instead of pulling our products off the shelf, we are labeling our products with the warning.
